The Refuge – The Palace Hotel
TC - 22 September 2016
Possibly the most eagerly awaited opening of the year, The Refuge is located in one of Manchester’s most iconic buildings, the former offices of the Refuge Assurance on Oxford Street, now known as The Palace Hotel.
The hotel has undergone a huge refurbishment program over the last year, now it’s finally time to reveal their all new restaurant and bar offer “The Refuge by Volta”. The Palace Hotel has completely redesigned the ground floor space and recruited “Unabombers” Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford to help out, and bring a flavour of their multi-award-winning, West Didsbury restaurant, Volta to the party!
At 10,000 sq ft The Refuge is HUGE, so has been divided up in to different areas for guests to explore… The Dining Room seats 139 covers and offers a relaxed dining experience, with an open kitchen, comfy booths, and a private dining room. The 40ft long Public Bar stocks 18 craft ale taps, bottles, wines and cocktails all selected by Luke and Justin.
Behind the bar is the Winter Garden, a glass atrium flooded with natural light, perfect for enjoying The Refuge’s signature cocktails and will soon be home to Champagne and Afternoon Teas. As you go even further into The Refuge you’ll find The Den, a multi use space, which could be used as a breakout space for corporate clients, or an area to hire for private parties. Lastly guests will find a large outdoor area populated with stools and high tables, decorated with festoon lighting – perfect for a street party!
Volta’s food menu is inspired by Luke and Justin’s travels and prepared by Head Chef Alex Worrall. Made up for a mixture of smaller plates such as lamb shawarma; smoked feta and beetroot; and Gloucester Old Spot pork belly, larger plates and grills are also available so if you fancy sharing an entire leg of lamb or a whole stone bass with family and friends, The Refuge is for you!
