The Liquor Store 2.0 launches – the First indie bar offering in Manchester’s newest neighbourhood
MC - 8th October 2016
Gone is summertime in the city and that means one thing, it’s open season in Manchester once again. MCRhookup were kindly invited along to the press launch at the new Liquor Store ahead of their official opening party weekend. This is the second site from the team who, this time around, have opted to traverse Deansgate to the opposite end at First Street, home of HOME.
Before we’re even in sight of the newness we track the names of the great and the good on the temporary Mancunian Walk of Fame – giving a taste of the glitz & glamour in Store. Central Library’s copy of Party Planning 101 had clearly been checked out as we were greeted by free fizz, friendly faces, balloon archway, burlesque dancing girls and an ice sculpture – there was no danger of a frosty reception though as the girls proceeded to hot things up breathing fire out front.
L.S. First Street mimics the original Deansgate site in spirit with an indie, rock’n’roll, classic pop playlist and similar NYC meets MCR décor – there’s a good game of guess who to be had with local legends’ portraits hanging on the brickwork walls – try out Manc your mates or just show off to out-of-towners. It’s business as usual behind the bar too with their recognisable classic drinks however First Street also introduces a new American food menu with dishes served all day, every day.
The new place helps complete the L.S. offering in a way you hadn’t noticed it needed; its glazed frontage and two storey layout contrasts and compliments Deansgate’s subterranean setting. Perhaps a water front location next time guys, Salford Quays maybe…L.S. Lowry?!
